Schlayer Design is the independent, one-human design studio of Geoffrey Schley.
I believe in building partnerships and solving marketing challenges for clients through great design. I've designed projects in all kinds of media including logo/identity development, print collateral, websites, print and web advertising, product graphics, packaging, trade show booths, clothing, poster design, illustration, etc.
If you have an idea about collaborating drop me a line. Projects big, small, short and tall are my specialty.
Logos are the visual foundation of a company's brand. A good logo expresses a company’s name, personality, culture, values, mission and even what they do. The best logos are appropriate, memorable, unique and stand the test of time. Ideally a logo functions as part of a larger brand identity system which depending on the business could be a website, print, packaging, product graphics, clothing or additional applications.
Spokes is the in-house café at Quality Bicycle Products. As part of the project I named the café, created a logo and visual identity and with a team of an architect, an interior designer and myself I chose carpet, paint, tile, lighting fixtures, cabinet treatments, and designed wall graphics, signage, a newsletter and a digital menu display.
Denver Soap Company is a start-up handmade soap company in Denver, CO. As part of the project, I named the various soaps, designed a logo, packaging, point-of-purchase display, bags, towels, promotional posters and wrote all of the copy. The design is intended to reference turn of the century Western aesthetics–a time when hand made goods were the rule and not the exception.
Civia is a bicycle brand whose mission is to create bikes for “smarter living” for everyone. They design simple, elegant bikes, components, accessories and clothing to keep you and your stuff on the move to work, school, the grocer-anywhere you need to go.
As art director for Civia I have designed frame graphics, packaging, clothing, catalogs, ads, trade show booths, etc.
Black Diamond is a quintessential mountaineering brand with over 50 years of designing, using and evolving hard and soft goods for alpinists. As part of the Black Diamond brand I created product graphics, a trade show booth, retail point-of-purchase displays and numerous other branding projects.
Quality Bicycle Products is the world’s largest distributor of bicycles and related products and accessories. As the lead Art Director for QBP, I work on, manage and design numerous QBP initiatives and proprietary branding efforts such as print advertising, packaging, point of purchase displays, websites, clothing, trade show booths, product graphics in a deadline driven environment.
Hoban & Feola is Colorado’s first and foremost cannabis business law firm. Since 2008 H&F has been providing legal advice to clients in the retail marijuana dispensary system and the industrial hemp industry.
As the lead Designer I partnered with a programmer to present concepts, expand the H&F brand and develop their website and mobile presence.
Free Range Pickin’ is a Twin Cities based acoustic string band. I designed the band’s identity including logos, CD packaging, T-shirts, magazine ads, posters, postcards, stickers, buttons, guitar picks, and website as well as art directing photo shoots.
This poster, designed for the non-profit organization Americans for the Arts, is meant to address the very serious problem of budget cuts in American schools in a humorous fashion. Most often when budgets are cut, the first thing to go is the arts, essentially “cutting out” right-brained activity. The design is meant to reference school yearbooks and the innocence of the children facing these budget cuts.
This coffee mug was designed for The Minneapolis College of Art & Design (MCAD) Alumni Association as a gift for graduating seniors. The design visually represents collegiate academic study and the many diverse artistic disciplines at MCAD.
The coasters were designed for the The Minneapolis College of Art & Design Off Campus Exhibition Program. The program gives students experience showing their work off campus in a public gallery setting, generating awareness for MCAD.
All-City is a bicycle brand built on the urban experience of riding a bike: fixed-gear, fixed-gear freestyle, single speeding, track, alley cat racing and the messenger lifestyle.
AC is a core-player in the equipment and culture of urban cycling. Not a cash-in, fad-following brand, AC has riding in it’s blood.
A company of riders making products for riders.
As art director for All-City I designed product graphics, websites, packaging, clothing, catalogs, ads, trade show booths, etc.
I designed and screenprinted the 3 posters on this page for ARTCRANK, a juried poster show featuring art for people who love bicycles. I was an ARTCRANK “hat-trick-artist” meaning that I happened to move 2 times to 2 different states in 2 years and was able to create a piece for each location in that time period.
MN FIXIE TWINS – As a native Minnesotan I grew up seeing the “Minnie and Paul” logo at the Met Center, on t-shirts, stickers, etc. With the opening of the Twins’ Target Field in 2010, the logo made a resurgence as it proudly stood above center field in neon. I decided to have some fun with the original logo and placed the ball players on bicycles and traded out baseball gear with nods to cycling.
BOUND TO COVER JUST A LITTLE MORE GROUND – As a Bay Area resident, long time Grateful Dead fan and avid cyclist I wanted to have some fun with the band by placing them on a six person bicycle. The illustration features numerous references to San Francisco, The Grateful Dead and their lyrics.
BUCKING BRONCO – As a kid my Colorado based Aunt supplied me with Broncos gear. I grew quite fond of the old “D” logo and the combination of blue and orange. I also happen to love riding mountain bikes…why not throw him on a dual suspension mtn bike?
